'Lights On (Between Three and Five)'

Jet lagged,
stalling out.
Bare feet,
on warm pavement.
Flowers fall around us.

Your hand in mine,
under the arches.
Eyes closed,
then open.
Waking dream;

or reality?

It comes back around,
but why today?
The climate,
the mindset,
and emotion.

Pressing on,
still distracted,
and wondering;
Where I am,
between three and five?

One of those days where I became suddenly and inexplicably consumed, haunted; by the recollection of a beautiful memory, a perfect moment, from years before.

    I once went from LA to Quito, Ecuador to start “a new chapter of my life.” I understand the feeling of arriving somewhere new… dear in the headlight feeling; confusion, excitement, and bewilderment all competing for attention. Add to that being tired because of the two day trip to get there. That is what your poem reminded me of. Good job!
