Number 44
Hurray! I have sold this original painting at my exhibition- ‘Cosmopolitan, Baileys or Midori?’ along with 3 more of my works! Exhibition on till June 20th, 2009
This painting tells the story of a poor mother selling her very young daughter to a man who tells the mother the girl will sell flowers in Thailand and send the money back home to her. The man betrays the mother. The mother never sees or hers from her daughter again.
The girl is the flower that he sells. He takes away her name and gives her a number- 44.
This is not the true story- I was inspired by a photo of a Thai prostitute who had the number 44 pinned to her underwear. She looked beyond sad and I wanted to give the girl a story. In the end of the story she is finally rescued, given back her name and set free which is my prayer for her.

Number 44 belongs to the following groups:
1 on 1: The Fine Art of Portraiture , * Painted Ladies *, Abstract Realism, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Capturing Emotion, Dark artists, dark art and Sydney Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

wow. what a great mix of realism and fantasy in your story. fantastic painting – she has such hollowness in her eyes.
Laurie Lou McKern replied
I was trying to capture the emptiness she had in her eyes and was dying to know what others would see when they looked at this painting- thank you for the feedback your comment was important to me. Laurie

you know this would be an excellent entry for the Challenge cafe – the new theme is ‘comforably numb’ (as in the Pink Floyd song) and she is definitely numb.
Laurie Lou McKern replied
what is the challenge cafe? L
Antanas
very beautiful
Marion Chapman
The Challenge Cafe is a group run by RB where they give away vouchers to RB as prizes. The theme changes all the time, so be quick if you are interested. just go to groups and type in ‘challenge cafe’.

Hey there Hedonistic Girl!
You’re most welcome and great to hear you perform music as well. Great website and samples :)
I bet you are often torn between the two (art and music) like myself.
Continue to make great music and art my friend and my kind regards to those fellow art goats of yours!
Miles of smiles,
Leith :)
