St. George Lighthouse located on St. George Island in North Florida. U.S.A.
The first lighthouse to be built on St. George Island was destroyed by a storm and the second was destroyed by a hurricane. The third lighthouse was built in 1852. Hurricane Andrew damaged it and Hurricane Opal knocked it off its foundation. It succumbed to beach erosion and pounding waves in 2005, and fell into the ocean. Volunteers salvaged bricks and pieces of the light. They cleaned the mortar off thousands of bricks to re-use on the new house and today it is re-opened, has 92 steps to the top and is absolutely beautiful.
This Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
