Celestial south pole viewed from Mandurah, WA.

First experiment with doing star trails. A bit of suburbia haze but I’m happy with the effect.

This is a set of 80 × 30 second exposures at F4, iso 800 (40 mins in continuous shooting mode). Combined in Helicon Focus.

Thanks to Jared Revell for his valuable instructions, tips and tricks :-)

Great work Laurette! What happened when your battery went dead? was the shot still exposing?

  • Thanks for your comment Vicki. Well I wasn’t there when the battery went dead, but I"m pretty sure the continuous shooting mode disengaged automatically once the battery got to super low levels, so the shutter wasn’t stuck in up position ;)

That is good to know, I always worry what would happen, as it says in my book to be careful of that!! :)

Great first go at this Laurette. If you don’t mind a tip from me,why dont you try a 25 minute
exposure at lowest ISO . It would save you a lot of work on the computer, if you want

  • cool Jeff, I’ll try this one, perhaps tonight as it’s clear skies again. Love all the tips and tricks people can offer as I love exploring my photography :)
