Essence of Oak

“A Dryad’s Daydream, Essence of Oak”.
by Helga Ross.

Fall, a walk
in the woods, alone,
birds heard in the tall timber,
seen winging, a good feeling.
A drift of foliage
leaves limbs bare-
the wind blows a kiss
as if it knows I’m there.
Warmed by the cold breath
the sun sighs,
a tramp of the damp earth.
Squirrels scurry the furrows,
the crush of curled leaves.
Steps these same feet, hide n’ seek,
once scampered beneath
these same trees—
a frolicking kid’s fun runs
when we were fearless and young.
Among ground colours become
quilt covers my grandmother
might’ve patterned
-a patch in which
I see me in sepia,
on umber my match,
her ochred old picture.
She existed, proof stored in a drawer;
still exists, because I recall.
Did I exist for these trees before?
Forthwith, familiar?
Do oaks growing old
hold trunks of memories?
Or, hardwood as hardware—tree-rings
careless, (unless I care)
except for life?—the only living things,
these, shared the same slice.
What does it mean that no one sees,
remembers this, but me?
What will it mean when I’m not here to see?
And because I care, spared,
when I won’t know these trees aren’t there?
.

Gorgeous capture. Splendid design and colors. Fun script, isn’t it? ;o)

  • Lauren Zorn replied

Bunny hi ! I was waiting for you ! ;o) Yes, it is a fun script in that’s not too fluid & it’s not rigid …. I hate scripts that only let you do a few similar images. Yes, I enjoyed it, though the gradient thing was a bit frustrating & required some work, but I’m good with color so I handled it just fine & I expect to in the future too. All in all, yes, I enjoyed it. ;oD

    And thanks hon !!!!

Powerful and dynamic, just as the old Oaks….beautifuly designed and an awesome pairing for those beautiful words by Helga Ross…I am drawn in, and still there…..thank you for your amazing talent, compassion and love of life! xxx JD

Nothing to thank me for Joyce, you know that. ;-) As for Oak here, well, when it developed, it just fought me on gradients. Some fractals are like that, they demand their own colors & you just have to work until you find it. And that’s what happened here.

As for the poem, I was looking for dryad poetry actually, & this was the first one that popped up but I thought it was perfect. I’m glad you agree. ;o)
