Alpine Tree Frog (Litoria verreauxii alpina) by

Black acrylic ink and watercolours on Arches 300g smooth (hot-pressed) watercolour paper. Original size 5 × 6 inches.

The world is currently experiencing the worst biodiversity crisis in 65 million years. Amphibians are leading this anthropogenic catastrophe, with more species endangered or extinct than in any other vertebrate class. Next to habitat loss, the fungal skin disease, chytridiomycosis is the primary cause of declines. While we can breed some species in captivity, until we can combat the disease which is threatening them in the wild, reintroduction attempts are largely unsuccessful.

Frogs are in the midst of a mass extinction crisis,

This painting is dedicated to S. Cashins, in recognition of the innumerable hours he continues to spend in patient and tireless devotion to the cause of abating amphibian declines.

I’m passionate about ecology, wildlife epidemiology and environmental conservation. I hope that I can raise awareness about the conservation of biodiversity through my art and research (currently researching the devastating fungal disease, chytridiomycosis, which is threatening frogs worldwide). Help spread the word about conservation!

Beautifully done Laura, love the textures you’ve achieved!

  • Thanks Maree! I’m afraid it’s been ages since I’ve been on RedBubble… Hoping to fix that!

A wonderful artwork Laura, but certainly a tragic situation for the creatures of this Earth. I hope that humans wake up in time.

  • Thanks for your lovely reply and recognition of the plight of wildlife!

What a beautiful piece, superb! Anyone interested in a UK organisation dedicated to amphibians, check out FrogLife Hope you don’t mind me linking, Laura; frogs need all the help they can get :-)

  • Thanks so much Sharon, and thank you for the link! The organisation looks great and I think I’ll link to it on all my frog pages when I get the chance! :)

How nice it is to see you and your work again Laura. This is a beautiful artwork, sadly it isn’t going to protect all the animals that are disappearing at an almost daily rate now!

  • So good to hear from you, Constance. Thanks! Yes I agree regarding animal declines; must do the best we can to spread the word. I saw that you’ve finished your butterfly alphabet – absolutely amazing and gorgeous!!! I haven’t had a chance to have a good look yet, but will soon, hopefully! :)
