The Passenger

The Passenger by Lasse Damgaard

The Passenger

Shot at the trainstation in Aarhus, Denmark in January – a train was leaving the station, and as I walked up along the carts, I noticed this guy sitting there. I moved a couple of carts ahead, put the viewfinder to my eye, waited for him to get in the picture – and snap.

  • Mark Higgins

Great shot. B&W, movement and his
    expression suits the mood.
    A story in a picture.
    Is he a reluctant traveller?
    Is he leaving someone behind?
    Is he ever returning?
    Lots of options.

this is a really cool image, especially the way he is looking out of the window, you caught him just right. Aarhus was pretty much responsible for me getting into photography as a serious hobby, after i saw a Wim Wenders exhibition at your art centre. and what a place that is!

fantastic. excellent treatment. dof makes it look like it’s moving fast, emphasizing and isolating your passenger. that’s the feeling I get from this – isolation, loneliness. Your choice of monochrome amps up the mood. superb b&w.

amazing shot, Lasse!! the contrast is just right, and i love how you were able to capture your subject so clearly while still capturing the movement of the train! sounds like a very tricky thing to do, especially when your subject is moving along with the train, but you’ve pulled it off wonderfully!
