I noticed this building about 2 miles from our home. It looked abandoned and rundown. I had planned on going back to take some photos, but was hesitant because it was hard to tell if someone lived there. A few vehicles were parked near a farm behind the house. A couple days ago when I drove by, I noticed it had burned down, well most of it anyway. I wonder who lived there, and how the fire happened. I assume noone was hurt. Although I rarely watch the local news, I am sure I would’ve heard something from someone who does. My husband, daughter, and I stopped there today to take some photos. I have several of the building, but this one appeared so poignant. We told my daughter it was an old building that had to be burned down because it was falling apart. It appears she is closer to the house than she really is in the photo because it was taken with a zoom lens.

Update: Our neighbor, who works for the fire dept., said noone lived in the house at the time it burned down. The property owners were burning some materials behind the house, which blew into the farmhouse.

Your daughter in the image gives it both poignancy and life; it’s an excellent image

  • Thanks:-) Yeah, she gave the image so much feeling.

Wow, this is almost haunting, with your daughter in the photo. If you hadn’t mentioned that it was her, it’s almost like there’s a little girl looking at the house she once lived in, like she’s a spirit. I really do like this. I think this is one of my favourites of yours so far. I love the title too. wow, I keep wanting to look at this.

  • Thanks so much for the great comment. You have summed up the essence of the photo. It definitely would have been just an ordinary photo without her in it, but tells a story. I may add some of the other photos to the description. It appears there was a mattress on the second floor.

I really like this image in the black frame. I was there with you when took these, but I didn’t imagine it would be so provocative. Great imagination.

  • Thanks, hun:-)
