A shrine to the Virgin Mary, specifically, Our Lady of Guadalupe. The Roses are replaced weekly along the wall by devoted women of the neighborhood at the base of a statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe. I took this section of the shrine first in a four part series that covered about a month of observation. This image includes a portion of a torn old painting, the head of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which has deteriorated due to weather and sun and has left a sort of negative image. This image was displayed at an art gallery for several months and Our Lady of Guadalupe would only be recognized to about 30% of the viewers. Many folks thought that the roses were by a fountain. This has been one of my best sellers. Looks great large. The shrine Located at the Self Help Graphics in East LA has been covered up by a steel sculpture. Shot with my Mamiya 645, F11 1sec exposure – update 2013 – Shrine has been taken down.
