The James and Ann Whitall House, built in 1748, is located on the Delaware River next to Fort Mercer & the Red Bank Battlefield, National Park, New Jersey, USA.
It served as a hospital during the battle of Red Bank in 1777. The house suffered damage during the battle. Ann Cooper Whitall had remained in the house during the fighting and tended to the wounded, earning her the epithet “Heroine of Red Bank.” We visited this house a couple of weeks back and it’s really cool. especially the stories from the actors who are present to explain the history. They will tell you about the blood stains on the floor and bullet holes on the walls.
