Thermophile /ther·mo·phile/ (ther´mo-fīl) an organism that grows best at elevated temperatures.
A wide variety of thermotolerant and thermophilic microscopic organisms thrive in Yellowstone’s geothermal features. Thermophilic bacteria and archaea are often brightly colored by photosynthetic pigments (chlorophylls or carotenoids).
