Haunted in Atlanta

Ok…this one isn’t so clear cut.

I lived in Atlanta for several years when I was married the first time, and my son was young. We lived in one of those pretty Atlanta swim/tennis neighborhoods for middlemanagement types, for about 3 years in a 10 to 15 year old home.

The master bedroom was downstairs and was quite comfortable. I can remember walking through the main part of the house often in the night, in the dark. My son, starting at age around 7 had the room at the top of the stairs to the left. To the right of the stairs was a long hall, bath on the right, bedroom, bedroom at the end of the hall and through that a bonus room over the garage.

My son was forever coming downstairs in the night and waking me up, not crying, just wakeful. He is a quiet, thoughtful, type of child. I would scoop him up, and take him back upstairs and tuck him in. I’ll come back to this later…....

The upstairs bathroom….it was horrible to be in there. It was small…tub on the left, sink to the right, straight ahead was the seat with a window above it. Even in the daytime, when I’d be cleaning the tub or seat, I never finished. Never. I’d do it in short bursts, literally running from the room. But what was weird, as I look back, I never thought…Oh, this room is haunted…..I wish I could convey the weirdness of this room….dread is a good word…I don’t know if I actually thought the words, someone is here, someone is watching…but the dread and discomfort was terrible…and goodness help me if I was up there at night…I hated that room.

Many times, I heard running in that hall when I was downstairs. Once, thinking the kids had left the bonus room door to the garage open, I took a bat upstairs because my son was downstairs with me and I thought it might be a dog or some other animal running…nothing….

Now, back to my son. When my son was 7or 8, what was happening that was disturbing his sleep, was something running down the hall and standing at the foot of his bed. This continued until we moved (divorce) when he was about 11. My son is down to earth, although hearing all this you may not think so. He told me after he was grown, that he would wind up on the floor many mornings..waking up as he hit the floor….all the children in the neighborhood would come to put their hands in the closet of the bedroom adjoining the upstairs bathroom…he said it felt like a static stream of water flowing over your hands…Once he saw a shadow figure only once, at that house..but very obviously watching him.

See you tomorrow night!

Wow, great story. Things like this could definately make you wonder. Have you ever done any research on the house or land?

I really didn’t think of doing that at the time…My son knew the people who lived there after we moved and talked to them a couple of years after we moved, they were having a terrible time, much worse than we did…I don’t know about now. One of the neighbors, who lives across the street said that she had heard that their use to be a cemetery on that land, but it has never been verified. It would be worth knowing, wouldn’t it? Oh, by the way, the man we were leasing from, was Australian.

Nice to see you too ! we had a thing once in a house l lived in when l first got married, every night there would be a loud bang and the man hole cover would be lifted to the side like something was coming down from the ceiling ! l put it down to the breeze lifting it until l realised it had to be pushed up about 8 inches to get it clear from the frame it sat in,needless to say l left there shortly after !!

Ginger I love the story and I can relate to what you experienced and I seem to ‘sense’ things. I seemed to have inherited it from my mother who was quite psychic. She would often ring me up on bad days and ask what the problem was. If she went away she would give me her VW to run around in and I honestly could sense her nearness in that darned car (it hated me – always got a flat battery when I had it). She always told stories of ghosts and I have sensed things over the years. I will put a story together sometime soon on my experiences so watch out for it. Great story – I loved it.

very interesting…i woke up and saw a ghost hovering over the end of my bed about 3 months ago. It was terrifying. I also heard the chair next to my bed (a wicker chair) start to creak as if somebody had just sat in the chair—-this all happened during a time that i was sitting on my bed upset about something..i figured my guardian angel came to sit in the chair. I believe your story and i understand the strain a haunted house can place on a marriage (been there also)...my condolences about your divorce…but i am glad to hear an upbeat-ness in your writing style.

Wow Ginger … what a spine tingling story.

I grew up having a healthy respect for things that cannot be explained and so your story really gave me goose bumps.

Wow Ginger…very creepy…I too have lived in a house where as a child, I would not stay in alone. In the morning I would get dressed, brush my teeth and haul butt downstairs and out the back door! I never really heard or saw anything…just a VERY uncomfortable feeling. Can’t imagine what I would have done in your situation. Looking forward to more stories!
