Upcoming Fall 2012 Art Show - Rochester Public Library

At the moment, I working on my 2nd annual show at the Rochester Public Library, on 9/20/12. This is an annual event for Empire State College faculty and alumni who put on this multi-media art show and promote all manner of art: textile, fashion, photography, painting, jewelry, collage, and sculpture. It is truly inspiring, especially as each artist gives a mini-lecture of 5 – 7 minutes about their work. If you’re lacking in creative inspiration, we encourage you to attend the opening reception, 09/20/12 from 5:30 – 8 pm, in the Lower Link Gallery of the Rochester Public Library on South Ave. (not the old library building, the new one across the street). It is fully catered with culinary delights and beverages to tantalize your tastebuds, as well. The exhibit runs t…

Spring 2012 MAG Show 5/2/12

Once again, I’m in a special spring show at the Memorial Art Gallery, 5/2. It’s another exclusive event with Empire State College with many academics and influentials from Rochester, so I’m excited to see how my work will be received again and whether there will be any sales or future opportunities to come out of that.

I’ve recycled three images from the Fall 2011 juried exhibit. While there is no real theme, they feature different special effects for achieving a unique image or texture by utilizing natural conditions or simple camara tricks. These features are explained with the images on display, 1) Dashboard Christmas Tree, 2) Snow Dune, 3) Jagged Leaf Edge.

This week I will post the images that will be featured in the Red Bubble gallery for viewing online, alo…

10/11 ESC Traveling Exhibit Continues to Display Images

From Sept to Oct, the Rochester Public Library featured 3 of my works in their Empire State College exhibit. The 9/14 reception was well attended.

The exhibit has now been placed on the Empire State College Campus on Winton Rd, which can be viewed during regular hours, starting in Nov. 11 thru Dec. 11. Additional works include posters on HIV education.

Portrait Photography - Branching Out

This week I’ll be taking a portrait photography workshop. Portraits and weddings can be a challenge; so many things can go wrong, especially with children. With a portrait, you want a realistic, yet “looking-your-best” shot, and this requires staging, posing, and the right light at the right moment. I can’t wait to learn basic technique, and start practicing on real people and objects, so I’ll need some willing subjects who will let shoot them. Any takers?

3 Works Submitted - 9/19/11 Show @ Rochester Public Library

This week I dropped off new images for the 9/19 2011 show at the Rochester Public Library, the main munipical city library, through Empire State College (ESC). I’m an alum, and fortunate that the college has a thriving art collective that is active in many community events and public activities which supports faculty, student, and alumni artists.
I submitted new three images heretofore undisplayed in public for this juried exhibit. I’ve posted them for viewing here. While there is no real theme, they feature different special effects for achieving a unique image or texture by utilizing natural conditions or simple camara tricks. These features are explained with the images on display, 1) Dashboard Christmas Tree, 2) Snow Dune, 3) Jagged Leaf Edge.

Spring 2011 Show - Memorial Art Gallery 5/5

Last week, I dropped off 4 images from my Winter-Frost series for a special spring show at the Memorial Art Gallery, 5/5. It’s an exclusive event with many academics and influentials from Rochester, so I’m excited to see how my work will be received, and whether there will any sales or future opportunities to come out of that. This week I will post the images that will be featured in the Red Bubble gallery for viewing online, along with annotations.

Winter - A Magical Time to Shoot

Winter is a magical time to shoot… A time when the ordinary and unremarkable become transformed by frost, ice, snow, and refractive sunlight. Structure and form are revealed in ice. The geometry of the mundane is suddenly revealed in defining outlines of delicate crystal frost. Muddy or turbid colors vibrate and glow against contrasting icy winter whites. Boring weeds become wondrous and dramatic green-frosted etchings.

Morning is the best time to capture winter’s frosty handiwork. Before the sun melts the fragile crystalline coatings that form picturesque pieces on window panes, ground flow, and the dead remnants of fall’s desiduous shedding.

Check back often for updates to the Red Frost collection to see this work in progress. Please include your comments, and fe…
