Where am I? What am I doing here? How did I get here in the first place? This mysterious and terrifying place is dead. There seems to be no life in the trees. All the leaves have died off leaving only their skeletal silhouettes disappearing into the encroaching fog. The wasted leaves are damp and sticking to my white and muddy trainers. If the fog would clear up I would be able to find my way through this. However, with the help of the nightmare sun, the light from it is beaming trough the disheveled branches giving me a path through the thick fog that I can see.
What’s that smell? Fresh meat. The essence is coming through the lifeless and leafless trees. The detached bark on the trees are old, rotting like skin peeling off flesh. The gnarled trunks are clad in mold and moss. The branches are deformed and pointed, like hands ready to sweep a helpless and unwary creature off its feet. The insect infested ground is layered with nothing but perished leaves and grimy, brown puddles of mud. My prey is somewhere in that mist. I’m so eager to devour it. I looked up. Grey, bleak clouds tip-toed across the moonlit sky.
My nerves are twitching down my back. I’m alone. At least I think I am. I can hear noises circling around me causing confusion. If I hide in a small place and kneel. I could cover my obvious blue jeans, and then smother my brown top with the gummy, yellow and brown leaves to camouflage myself. I might not be seen. I try to hide. But accidentally, I break a twig, making a creepy sound. The cold, damp air grew even colder. I feel someone or something is watching me.
*I followed the obvious trail and the delicious aroma that the creature is creating. The taste of its flesh is almost with in my grasp. I suddenly hear a snap of a twig. I sharply turn my head towards the sound. My prey is within my sight*.
My heart could not stop beating so loud and rapid. I’m so scared. There is something in this creepy place. It’s somewhere close. Suddenly an eerie echo of a cracking twig comes from behind me. I sharply turn towards the noise. And there was a shadowy figure with blood red eyes just staring at me. I’m so afraid I have no choice but to run. I turn back to the creature. It leaped up into the trees and the only thing I see is the stealth form darting from tree to tree. I keep on running, dodging, trees and fallen branches. I turn again to find the creature just stopped.
I plunged into a deep ditch and land on my back.
_It looks appetizing. I can’t just eat this meal just yet. I think I’ll have a little play with it first. I try to get closer, but my hand snaps a twig, the creature turns its head towards me. At the sight of me it starts running. The game is on. I jump up into the trees at the speed of darkness. I steal its every move as my prey runs. Keeping myself fixed in the trees, the being cannot break away from my hunger. I am leading it right into a trap. Up ahead is a pit. If I shepherd it there, my starvation will be no more. My prey’s getting closer and closer. Finally she falls_.
I’m paralyzed. I can’t do anything to escape that monster. I see the thing climbing down from the trees and slowly moving down into the pit like a spider. It comes up to me. My god. The sight is horrifying. I try to let out a scream, but nothing came out. Then the beast slowly covers my face with one hand, with the other hand it painfully grasps my brown long hair. My skin is crawling and frozen by the hands.
Now here’s my chance. I climb down from the trees and into the hole towards my catch. Like a fly in a web, it laid so still. I get closer to my prey’s face. Its eyes widen and attempt to let out a cry, but nothing came out through its mouth. So I wrap my fingers onto the creatures face and tightly grip its hair.
Hunger no more.
Here is a little story which inspired me as I was walking through the woods not far from where I live.
