One of a few old longdrops still standing in Hampton.
This is my favorite of all the ones I found – it had a “double” seat and very picturesque location!
I often wonder what a challenge it would have been digging the longdrop in such stony ground!

Hampton is a little known aspect of Burra – pretty much what I call a ghost town it was once a thriving collection of about 30 cottages and a chapel.

Hampton was modelled around a traditional English village, however it was virtually abandoned in the 1920’s with the last residents leaving in the 1960’s.

This was one of my favorite locations in Burra, it has so much atmosphere.

Taken with a 12mp DSLR Pentax k-x and converted to black and white.

Geez Penny, not a great pozzie for a night drop, me thinks you might not make it back in one piece?

Question? Why do they call this a long drop? Instead of a shit can? LOL!

  • haha, believe it or not there was actually a smoother path on the other side (the house side) which was rather overgrown, but yea, nothing like life on the edge lol!!

Umm, well I guess cos lots are made of stone or wood as well??? lol…. I think Thunderbox is about as good as it gets though…
