Artist's Description

Taken from Morphett’s engine house, Burra, south australia.

Burra is a beautiful old ex-mining town with a long and complex history, originally as several smaller tows, it’s located near to where I live (it’s nearest shopping for me)
I rarely stop to appreciate the beauty of the town’s unique features, but a fun weekend with a friend that was visiting gave plenty of opportunity for a few snaps as we did the tourist trail.

The open cut mine at burra was known as “the monster mine” it was the largest metal providing mine in australia until 1860, between 1845 and 1877 they pulled about 50,000 tonnes of copper metal out of it.

The pit is now about 100 metres deep and used for deep water diving training and every year there is a music festival held there – the ambiance is amazing.
