Viking Jewelry

Three pieces from Viking Era. Necklaces are from Finnish Lapland way beyond the Arctic Circle; Sami jewelry. The silver necklace has Sun and Moon on it. Both center pieces in Sami mythology. The bronze necklace has tiny little plates that make tinkling sounds and were believed to keep evil spirits away.

The bronze bracelet is from Eastern Finland and were worn by men who had earned them by doing brave deeds or distinguish themselves in war. The protective power of bracelets is the same as that of rings. It is said that a bracelet encircling the wrist produces a magical power that protects from evil spirits.
