West

I’m facing due west towards the setting sun,
My head held high, my lifelong task is done.
My children are happy, what more could I ask,
Lay my body down beneath the sun-kissed grass.

I’ve had my ups and down’s, but I’m still plodding on,
Holding my head up high, despite my partner has gone.
With the help of my friends, I can manage a smile or two,
We all have one thing in common, and we’ll make it true.

Lonely nights still await me when I lay down to sleep,
Memories of better times still make me want to weep.
But I’m cheerful in myself, always trying to look by best,
I’ve taking everything in my stride, I have past every test.

I look westward to try and see what may lie in store,
Always looking for something I haven’t experienced before.
Someone to love perhaps, someone who might care,
Someone to walk my road, and help me to get there.
