oil paints & oil pastels on board | plain ash frame
Halfway along on any metaphorical journey is I guess a natural time to stop, a time when knowledge & experience gained allow a considered reflection of acheivements past and then, in moving on, as yet unfulfilled dreams, potentialities & goals. In this, I’m considering the nature of our spiritual existance in terms of our time here being a journey upon which we set ourselves to travel, and to learn as best we can.
The painting illustrates looking back along the trodden path of our life, back from the halfway point to the entry-point, where we came into our shared reality for this short time. The relative turmoil of the painting either side of the path describes just how difficult and tricky navigating life’s path is along all of it’s length…..though in the end there maybe guidance if we chose to make use of it. And questions are also raised regarding what might’ve happened, what might’ve turned out, had different choices been made at various key times; for me, in my case, I can’t help but feel much regret.
