Some new visitors to our garden to benefit from “Bailey’s Birdie Bistro and Spa” are a pair of Eurasian Jays (garrulus glandarius). These are one of my favourite British birds, and not commonly seen in suburban gardens. Jays are members of the crow family and are around the size of a large pigeon. From our varied menu, they seem to favour peanuts and bread and I’m working hard on the catering side to keep them visiting so I can get some decent shots (when we get some sunshine back!) Untidy background removed from this pic.

What a beautiful bird, Krys! I’ve never seen one of these, even in a picture. I especially like those striped blue wing feathers!

  • Thanks Bonnie! Not as blue as your American Jays but rather handsome I think nonetheless! ;o)

Well done, Krys! I’ve seen many of these in my day, but rarely this close up! Such a beauty.

  • Thanks Sheila. Hopefully these guys will be regular visitors if I keep feeding them what they like most – nuts and bread! They don’t seem to upset the other smaller birds like magpies do! ;o)

Krys, he is truly a beauty… isn’t it fun when we see new birds come to our yards? I thought that the background was natural until I read your description. ;-) I love it, great work!
