Not much snow evident in this picture but thanks to the abundance of the white stuff and below freezing temperatures here in Merrie c_old England, I met my first couple of Fieldfares ever and they entertained me with hours of posing in my Crab Apple tree. Fieldfares (turdus pilaris) are large thrushes and are winter visitors to the UK. I bet this one wish he’d carried on further south for his winter holiday, although he was decimating all the fruit and was a real Birdzilla chasing all the other birds off the tree! He’s rather handsome though, don’t you think, and he sure could wiggle that huge tail! ;o)

I’m at a loss for words; all I can say is LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! One of your best in my opinion!

  • Thanks so much Bonnie! I was just over the moon to see a new bird (two of these actually) in my garden plus another, a Redwing, which I will post later on! The snow certainly brings in rare visitors! ;o) This guy was very expressive with his jaunty tail reminding me of your little sassy birds!

Hes just beautiful ! Love the action in his tail feathers. Its just a great comp all the way around, and sharp too !

  • Thanks Karen! He really used his tail to display his rather assertive nature… shall we call it! That 70-200 lens is really crisp even in the shade which this was believe it or not! ;o)

wow a terrific shot krys, stunning bird, i have never seen one of these before, so well done, from a crispy freezzing bristol hehe, dawnx

  • Thanks Dawn! I’d never seen one either and two of them arrived! Also saw a Redwing but will post that later on! Hope you’re keeping warm – we can’t go out in the car as we live on a slight hill and the road is worthy only of Torville and Dean! Had to walk a mile to Sainsburys today to get the essentials (cider, cider… oh, and some food!) Hope you’re not too put out by the snow! ;o) xxx
