Punk

This is an Egyptian Vulture (neophron percnopterus) sporting a delightfully punky hairdo! These smallest of all African vultures are apparently not only carrion eaters, but smart enough to use tools (like stones) to crack open ostrich eggs! Clever little featherballs. Africa Alive, Suffolk, England.

Canon EOS 50D with Canon EF 400mm L f/5.6 lens handheld

I am drawn to the curve of the beak and just love the overall placement of the whole shot.

Speaking of smart, this one looks very thoughtful. I like the dof with just the right amount of detail in the foreground … and that hairdo!

  • Krys Bailey replied

Thanks Richard! The dof is always quite limited with the 400mm lens and critters (which move) – I always aim to get the sharp focus on the eye! ;o)
