Hi Krys…wow, what a challenge. I believe it is known as the Common Mime (Papilio (Chilasa) clytia). It is a variety of a swallowtail butterfly found in South and South-east Asia. The butterfly belongs to the Chilasa group or the Black-bodied Swallowtails. It serves an excellent example of a Batesian mimic among the Indian butterflies. More specifically, I believe its known scientifically as follows – Kingdom of Animalia, Phylum of Arthropoda, Class of Insecta, Order of Lepidoptera, Family of Papilionidae, Genus of Papilio, Subgenus of Chilasa, and Species of C. clytia. Its binomial name is Chilasa clytia. It was discovered by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. FYI, Linnaeus was a Swedish botanist who basically invented binomial nomenclature. Ya see, this is what happens when you ask questions of people who majored in the scientific area. ;-) Keep smiling, kiddo!
