Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston, SC. This image was taken in broad day light, but was uninteresting. I converted it to nighttime and added the full moon. All work performed in Photoshop CS5.
A solid color layer was placed on top of the daylight image. A dark blue-black color was chosen
The full moon layer was added. Using the layer blending options, the tree limbs were pulled in from underneath to give the impression that the moon is behind the trees.
A layer mask was placed on the solid color layer, and a radial gradient was used on the moon to make the glow around it.
Using the lasso tool, small shapes were drawn / selected on the layer mask. Within these shapes, a gradient was used to create the moonlight on the small buildings and water.
