My work is grounded in the notion that contemporary femininity is socially and culturally constructed by the manipulative presentation of women in popular media and fashion rather than by any biological gender reality.
Encouraged to buy into the packaged and branded expectations of a consumerist society women become trapped in a cycle of performativity led by the desire to conform to an inaccessible and unattainable ideal.
By using meat as a ground, I have mechanically constructed products of gender which reflect the fragmentation of self created by this performative cycle. These gender products challenge society’s acceptance of a contrived feminine identity.
Currently within my last year of a fine art Degree, on this site I have uploaded a selection of my personal emerging artistic identity.
