Laundry Day
This is the sixth in my Iceberg series from the 2008 Iceberg season.
From the Northern tip of Labrador down to the eastern coast of Newfoundland, the sea that pounds and caresses these shores is nicknamed Iceberg Alley. Bergs born 10,000 years ago on the Greenland icecap dance along the coast and far out to sea, propelled unpredictably by wind and tide, tumbling, twirling, and breaking into fantastic shapes before melting in the warm waters of the gulf stream.
An iceberg’s journey down Iceberg Alley begins once it breaks off from the edges of Greenland’s glaciers. Dropping into the ocean, it is gripped by the Labrador Current and carried through the dark ocean along the coasts of Newfoundland and Labrador. In the past, during certain times of the year, the alley has been thick with the largest and most beautiful icebergs found anywhere in the world. They glide majestically along, alone or in groups, obscuring the horizon with their tall, jagged silhouettes.

I won’t bore you with my gushings of admiration for your work … but oooooooooooo WOWZER!!!!! (Well, that’s probably not true … I’ll probably be back when I have more time and overwhelm your b-site with excited notes.) I know I’ve seen and admired several of your images before but this morning I took some time out to really enjoy them … may I just say that you are an extraordinary artist and your work is the kind of art that we should all aspire to achieve!!!!!!! I am in AWE of everything you’ve so kindly presented here!!!!! This particular image … the clean (and oh so crisply photographed) laundry happily drying against the contrast of the near-barren land and the ominous ice berg floating by just blows me away. Keep shooting!!!!!!!!!!! MORE PLEASE!!!

Kevin, I saw something about this place when Billy Connolly was travelling around there (on a tv show). I love the contrast of the washing hanging on the line and the majestic iceberg floating past. Wonderful comp, lighting, story, capture and series. Well done indeed. An instant fave.
