syd baker
Holy cow! Turned out very well, but computers can be so unfair!!
Keith Reesor replied
Thanks Syd!! Yes they can. I started this one Friday evening. I couldn’t let the render run more than 2 1/2 hours on its own, without it crashing. I had to keep saving/purging memory/resuming render, but I needed to see how it would turn out. The star was diamond!! That was part of the problem, but it just didn’t look as good using crystal or glass!!
Luchare

Wil Southers
wow! great work here, Keith!
38 hours, though!!! If only we could get our own render farms! haha
what sort of system are you using?
Keith Reesor replied
Thanks so much Wil!! Hmmmm my own render farm of about 100 computers….that would be amazing!! I’ve got an HP w/ an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ 2.50 GHz w/ 3G of RAM.
I couldn’t let this one run more than 3 hours on its own without crashing.
This was unusual though. Most work fine.

love the disparity and dichotomy between the two worlds…....... beautiful work friend…..................b
Keith Reesor replied
b…...that’s it exactly!! The contrast between the dark, stark, harsh landscape and brooding clouds to the bright, shining, clarity and brilliance of the star and ring. Also the hint of the sun starting to break through, already being captured in the reflections within the gemstone materials!! :>)
Keith Reesor replied
Oh!! Thanks so much too!!

owlspook
wow ..it’s fantastic (big smile) and I just have to say is that you have quite a bit of patience exhibited here .. 38 and a quarter or so minutes!! ... if you don’t mind asking you … what computer do you use? pc/mac? how fast is it and how much memory? a dual core? ... I have a 3.something mhz, 2 gigs ram, PC using linux as my OS … I do a lot of rendering in Apo and my patience on this computer bottoms out at 3plus hours!! (big grin) ...
Keith Reesor replied
Thank you very much Owlspook!! :>)
Vue first estimated the time at 5 hours, which wasn’t bad, but…..
My computer is as listed in reply to Wil Southers above w/Windows Vista.
I so miss Windows XP. I will probably go with a Mac next time around.
catherine walker
really amazing and wonderful work!!
Keith Reesor replied
Thank you so much Catherine!! I really appreciate it!! :>)
owlspook
sorry I missed that reply … would love the biggest bestest mac around (come on Santa LOL) .. was into macs back in the early days but cost soon outpaced my wallet (sigh) ... I can do xp but never never ever vista (censored) .. I prefer linux and do most of work in it … some programs I just can’t get to work with wine or crossover hence xp .. what would I get next? bigger better faster (grin) .. but that’s down the line a bit … I keep my old ‘puters .. figure I’ll have a varied render farm as time goes on (big grin) .. as it is now I’m using an old slower windows box for while I’m doing more work on my linux box …
Keith Reesor replied
Yes, anything but Vista!! :>)
