Sometimes on a road trip through rural Canada you’re left with no other option but to stop at Tim Hortons (a Canadian icon) and purchase the dirty brown water they have the nerve to call ‘coffee’. Sometimes you hand them your well-traveled travel mug and say ‘black please’ then they go about the task of filling up a disposable cup and then pouring it into your travel mug then tossing the disposable into the trash! When the obvious question of ‘Why did you just do that?’ comes out of your lips they respond by saying they didn’t know what size to charge.
When you’re in the next unfortunate situation you tell them to charge you for an extra large & they do the same routine anyway!
I’ve been told they track their sales by the cup. So, instead of looking at the till reciepts at the end of the day, they just look at the landfill.
Once a year they do a promotion called roll up the rim where the more cups you buy to throw in the trash the greater chance you stand to win, win WIN! usually it’s another coffee. Or a doughnut.
