Great story. You can hardly find that kind of car in North America any more but they are everywhere in Australia! You were lucky to have started with a new car. My first car was a used 1950 Pontiac with many miles on it. I proudly drove it to my home town 90 miles away while it belched blue smoke and used 4.5 quarts of oil. Not my greatest purchase. My Dad helped me trade it right away for a 1962 Dodge Dart that I kept for many years. It had “three on the tree” and could wipe any car off the line. We had a lot of fun together. My fondest picture of my first wife was taken in that car when we were courting and I honestly feel that is when I truly fell in love with her. Thanks for stirring up some good old memories.

Yes, I was very fortunate to get a new car for a first car.
I kid you not Al, I have lived a charmed life.
