I was born on 1974 in Sri Lanka. I began drawing and painting from as early as I can remember. I received my basic training from my father who was also an artist, and when I moved up to High School, my mind was already made up: I would be an artist.

During school years I won numerous awards from national art competitions and inter-school art competitions. But after finishing school, I went to the S.C. Opatha School of Fine Arts where I began experimenting with different styles. I devoured influences of all styles of art ranging from classicism to abstraction. Even now, there are echoes of Rothko and Hodgkin in my work as well as the more definitive shapes to be found in Sri Lankan myth and belief.

I have more than ten years’ experience in advertising and graphic design, and have a wealth of experience in film animation. I have worked at the Gate Worldwide in Hong Kong since 2004, where I continue to work for a wide variety of international clients.

After so many years in advertising and the film industry, I think the time is now right to go back to canvas again. In the past few years I have done a number of experimental works – and my own personal style is now starting to crystallize.

I want to ‘fuse’ Eastern and Western styles. Here are few examples for you to review – I hope you find them interesting…
