what's your favourite?

Hi everyone, as I mentioned before I would like to make the transition from black and white graphite to coloured pencil.
However, I’m realising that there are so many different brands and types out there that I’m gonna need a bit of help choosing my next set of serious pencils! So where better than Redbubble to ask for a bit of advise!
What I would like to know is what all of you guys find the best to use and would recommend I draw with? I did have a few karismacolor pencils a few years ago and these were really good but not so suprisingly I don’t have a spare £130-50 to get me a full set! (I think these have been discontinued anyway so you could say I’m a bit late off the mark for that one!) All I,ve worked out so far is they need to be blendable but not too soft.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks everyone
=)

I use derwent watercolour pencils but find them not really soft enough. I keep hearing people mentioning prismacolour ??

Thanks Anita I’ll put that one on the list!

I also use Derwent watercolour pencils, and also their pastel pencils. I reiterate Anita’s remarks – I also hear a lot of people mentioning Prismacolour. I think they might be an American brand. Susan Bergstrom is an artist on the Bubble who seems to use them a lot, so maybe she can give you some hints.

Thanks Lynda, Prismacolour is becoming a strong favourite (that’s 2 out of 2!) I’ll ask Susan for some tips aswell, thanks again =)

Hello again Koop. I just Googled ‘Prismacolour’ and there is lots of information, so thought you might like to do that too. It looks like they are an American brand, but you could probably order them online if you can’t find a local stockist in the U.K. Be good to have a little try of one wouldn’t it??

Prismacolour is the US version of the discontinued Karsima. Supposedly the leads are exactly the same but I use both and find Karisma suits me better, they are slightly different. I picked up a big Prismacolour set on ebay for a reasonable price, found a few very rare boxes of Karisma pencils on there too.

My favorite Prismacolor artist on RB is Elena Kolotusha, her work is breathtaking!

Thanks for the info Laura, I didn’t know Prismacolour was the same a karisma! I think I’ll take your advice and see what I can find on ebay. I also had a look at some of Elenas work and Oh my god it’s stunning! what I’d give to be able to draw and paint like that!
