Watercolour on 325 gsm fine grain paper 30×20 cm
W&N tubes – Winsor Blue (Red Shade), Yellow Ochre, Sepia, Burnt Sienna

Painted this to take with us to the first Confolens English Market of the season. The day was a bit of a washout unfortunately and we didn’t do too well.
This is the old bridge across the River Vienne which is only now open to pedestrian traffic.

I paint watercolours and write short stories.

Superb work Ian! Gasps of admiration to you from this side of the planet!

  • Thank you Lynda. It wasn’t such a blue sky in Confolens the other day when I was there. Rain, rain, rain on this side of the planet!

I’m pleased that you’ve carried that newer style of yours over to include the more panoramic scenes as well Ian. I have always enjoyed your work , but when I compare your older works with the newer ones, I see that the older ones seemed more like illustrations as the newer ones clearly look more like watercolour paintings with a fine art feel to them.

  • Glad you think I’m progressing in the right direction Jim though I wouldn’t mind a bit of illustration work to boost my bank balance. I am trying to actually paint a bit more if you know what I mean.

Beautiful…..very fitting to know the bridge is only open to pedestrian traffic…to imagine cars driving over it kind of ruins the atmosphere. Lovely.

  • Thanks Lisa. Yeah, the road bridge isn’t so pretty, as you can imagine!!
