Watercolour on 325 gsm Moulin du Coq fine-grain watercolour paper
W&N tubes – Yellow Ochre, French Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna

This small café/gallery is right at the centre of the town of Piégut in the Dordogne department of France. The market held in the town every Wednesday morning is one of the largest in the region. Whilst we were there last week, where Fran incidentally sold one of her paintings, I took to the streets with the camera.

Wow….Ian, this is a superb w/c painting, There is so much i love about this…as always your command of light and shadow is breathtaking as is your attention to detail. Love the weathered side of the brick wall and the corrugated roofing over the cafe…beautiful work. Congrats to your wife…well done.!!!

I just don’t know how you can take the most complicated scene & make it look so easy…..you never cease to amaze me with your gorgeous work. Send my congrats to Fran! She must be thrilled.

  • Never be daunted Marsha….ha ha!! Not as complex as it looks…better than landscapes for me any day.

Thanks for nice comments. First market sale this summer so hope that’s a good sign!

You can render our typical French scenes so well, Ian ! And this fantastic light of yours, always !…I would say “le vrai sens du terroir” concerning your subjects……

  • Merci Corinne. It’s only on market day that the town really comes alive.
