Brandenburger Tor
This is Brandenburger Gate in Berlin by night. It’s a very famous and historic place. You may read about it here
To me, this is also a historic place. The only other time I was in Berlin was when I was 17 and went there with my school class. My father gave me his SLR (which in turn gave him opportunity to buy himself a new one) and a rough course in using it. So that trip set me up to photography.
I was madly in love with Marianne, one of my classmates, and I was literally holding her hand all the time, so I didn’t take that many pictures. However, I managed somehow to take some shots of this, from the other side, though. This side was East Berlin then. It was also night shots then.
It was really wonderful to revisit this place.

giving me goosebumps …
as one who was born in Berlin, left at age 7, visited at age 17 (just a few years after the wall had come down) ... and now having had the opportunity to visit often in the past three years …
... my mom’s name was Marianne …
hmmmm
ok, beyond all my own sentiments of nostalgia
This is a fabulous shot Keld … wonderful!
Kofoed replied
I’m glad you got the goosebumps, Bettina. I sure had that also when I was there the other night. Last time I was there, there was an ugly wall across the square on the other side and a sign saying: “Achtung! Sie Verlassen jetz West-Berlin!”
(This Marianne was born and still lives on this island – but quite a coincidence!)
Thank you very much for your lovely comments, and thanks awfully much for the favouriting, Bettina. I am honoured.

G’day KELD!
A very romantic and poignant story and a superb photograph of this famous gate to back it up. Exquisite exposure, wonderful tonal range and sweet contrast are the technical refinements but to know your heart and soul went into the making of this shot adds such warmth and humanity.
