Lessons Learned

Chloe held her breath as the ice beneath her groaned, creaking ominously as it supported her weight. She waited until the noises ceased before continuing her slow crawl across the frozen surface of the lake. Just the thought of the icy water below sent shivers of fears shooting along her nerves.

“Oh come on Chloe. Grow a back bone!” Joe whizzed past, showering her with snowy shards. “The ice is perfectly firm.”

“Yeah Chloe, your skates are already on your feet.” Mellissa sneered from her other side. “Use them.”

With a snort, she pirouetted and sliced across the ice in front of Chloe’s sprawled figure to join Joe. As they laughed, pushing away to skate further into the centre of the lake a sharp crack rent the air. The ice beneath Chloe trembled, and her heart leapt into her throat.

Mellissa’s scream sliced through the still air, and Chloe glanced over her shoulder to see her friends vanish beneath the ice with a splash.

My second entrant for the Star twister 62- water (Twisted tales).

We have had a very very cold spell in England, and alot of concerns have been raised over frozen lakes…a bit of a topical one this one,

Well serves them right for being so smug! ….awww no I ain’t that mean. Maybe the motto of this KM is those skating on thin ice should learn to shut their mouth!
Yep a icy cold water twister indeed me thinks!

  • Thanks- there is the sense of ‘told you so’ about it- I nearly thought it was too obvious a twist though!

Okay… not a happy ending. I’ve never been much of a dare devil and now I know why! I guess that couldn’t happen at the mall ice rink though.

  • I can’t say that I am much of one either, but we should be safe indoors…:-)

my nightmare is falling through ice and it closing up over me…::shudder::. I hate seeing people walking across frozen lakes here in upstate NY or snowmobiling across them or even taking their pickup trucks on them…crazy!

  • Some people do do crazy things! Glad to see you’re back, look forward to your new inspiration!
