Taken at Southwold beach 20.8.2010

Simon had texted me to say grab a packed lunch and lets head down to Southwold as he wanted to try out his new Tamaron 70-300mm lens he had just got for our 5 year anniversary present from me.

So off we went on arrival I realised again I was dressed for a cooler climate and here at the beach it was sweltering Black jeans and walking boots not a good idea.

After a good walk from the Pier end to the harbour end Simon put his new lens onto my D90 body for me too try. A total different way of thinking is needed, you can zoom in from such a distance I am so used to my 18-105 lens, this took some getting Used to.

These children I captured from the top path looking down a long way onto the beach and I am just amazed at the range.
Glad to say Simon very pleased with is new Lens and he got some fantastic shots from a 3 hour outing. hopefully he will share some with us soon.

First go with a zoom to 300mm

Great shot Karen, yes you can get in close.

  • Thank you Gary totally different way of doing or thinking photgraphy. The distance you can get to, NOT IN PEOPLES private space so you can capture candid images I would never of dared try to before.

Splendid capture, Karen! The Tamron zoom seems to be great :) Love the way you have composed this.

  • Thank you so much Denitsa, this was just a point and take from the top path and such a longway to the beach, did not think I would mange to get anything, but totally surprised by the lens.

  • Thank you so much Rod for your kind words, the beach was packed this end by the pier.

Congrats on your feature Karen, such a lovely shot makes me long for Summer!!!

  • Thank you so much Di, was a slight windy day but very hot day at the beach. Cool at mine 30ish minutes drive away hence I was dressed in 3/4 length sleeved tee shirt, blackjeans, walking boots, and even a fleece with me. How over dressed was I. : )

Oh I do enjoy your beach scenes Karen. This so strongly represents that lovely holiday feel.

  • Thank you so much Cynthia, was a lovely day to walk the full length of the beach and have a ice cream. But have to say I love it far better out of season, but then you do not get the candid shots.

A lovely shot too… can see you having a zoom too, grats on your feature in Nikon DSLR users group

  • Thank you Simon I can see how a zoom opens so much more for the photgrapher and candid shots become easier. Well i was intrigued by the new Nikon as has vibration reduction and tripod thingy all good in a unsteady hand, but will have to wait a long time as SOO much money. But I would like to have another go with yours sometime, go up the harbour and I cannot wait to see what you capture at the Henham steam rally.

Congrats on the well deserved feature, has Simon lost the lens you have only just given him? LOL

  • Thank you Gary for the lovely comment, No he has not lost his new lens but I can see he is going to have a great time with it, so very different to use.
