Taken in my back garden 27.3.10, this is the first one I have photgraphed this year

I was so pleased to spot this Ladybird on my black grass that stands in a pot by my concervatory. So just had to grab my camera and take a couple of images. Im getting withdrawl symptoms as not been out for a long walk with my camera in hand for a few weeks, so you get to the point of capturing anything around you that catches your eye.

I also have a very soft spot for ladybirds

Nikon D90 and 18-105Vr lens with +4 screw on magnifying filter

Focal length 105mm
exposure 1/60th
ISO 400
uv filter
+4 magnifying screw on lens
trying manual focus again.
Hand held

Should of set the camera to cloudy but forgot in my rush. Processed in Photoshop Cs2 in levels then just in colour efex Pro 3 in darken and light filter to darken edges and light on ladybird but nothing else done.

A Magpie when it comes to photography I capture anything and everything that captures my eye and lens. A beginner in this field I love how the ordinary becomes less ordinary.

I love the contrast in colours of the bright orange ladybird against the grey/black, stands out so well, great detail.

  • Thank you so much, i was really surprised how my black grass came out as does not look that textural on just looking at it.

Great capture Karen. The ladybird really stands out against the dark leaves. Makes it look so precious and fragile. Glad to see the weather is turning your side of the world.

  • Hi Mia, yes I think spring is here well we have sun and rain on and off today but feeling warm and i have just had to rescue the biggest Bee ever from a room.

I’ve never seen or heard of black grass before. Nice macro shot – great scale, focus and vivid tones !

  • I will have to see if I can find its true name for you. It is wonderful very slow growing but even has black berries on it but great in a pot and with other flowers. Think it is more a ornamental grass was very popular in the garden centers last year. Thank you so much for your lovely comment it is really appreciated.
