Artist's Description

A view of the Summer Palace from the temple on the hill behind it. There is a lake in front that was dredged by hand. The dirt was piled to make the hill the temple sits on. This is in keeping with FengShui principles. Your house should face the south with water at the front to provide cool breezes in the summer. You want mountains behind you to the north to block winter winds. Beijing itself was chosen to be the capital because there are naturally mountains to the north and water to the south. The Forbidden City has a man-made mountain behind it for the same reason. A natural spring and a man-made moat provide the water to the south at the Forbidden City.
