My husband and I loaded our bikes into the back of our van, found a small alleyway to park, then spent a fantastic hour or so biking around Tiananmen taking photos of the preparations for the 60th National Day anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. It was late, the traffic was light, temperature was pleasant, and the sights amazing. There were quite a few others out with their cameras and tripods.
I’m from the US and have conflicted emotions about ‘celebrating’ this anniversary. However, over time I have learned that things in life are seldom black and white and I’ll leave that debate for another time and another forum. I must say, though, that we had no trouble from anyone in our wander and were only politely asked to move when we really were in the middle of the street taking photos.
