The gingerbread cottages are located in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts on the island of Martha’s Vineyard. The area is in a national historic landmark district, known as the Martha’s Vineyard Campmeeting Assn..

In 1835 Oak Bluffs hosted a 3 day Methodist religious revival meeting which was so popular that it became an annual event. Three years later, there were tents, then platforms, which became simple houses….no heat and tiny rooms, but with elaborate Gothic flair. The central tent was replaced by an open air steel tabernacle.

While there are no longer any revival meetings, tourists are welcomed and other events scheduled.
