The spectacled owl is found in southern Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. It is 16 – 19 inches tall and nests in hollow tree holes.

Their vocalizations are knocking or tapping sounds with a popping effect (sometimes mistaken for woodpeckers’). The female also has a hawk-like scream.

(shot at Raptor weekend in Rhode Island, where injured birds of prey, that cannot be released back into the wild, provide educational opportunities)

raptors, owls, spectacled owl

I am deeply concerned about environment, wildlife, and animal welfare, feeling a strong commitment to leaving the planet in better shape for new generations. Therefore, I support a number of charities that reflect those interests.

I have a degree in English and Library Science, but if I had my life to live over, I would have loved to have been a photographer, writer, and/or National Park ranger.
