The spectacled owl is found in southern Mexico, Central America, and northern South America. It is 16 – 19 inches tall and nests in hollow tree holes.
Their vocalizations are knocking or tapping sounds with a popping effect (sometimes mistaken for woodpeckers’). The female also has a hawk-like scream.
