The Newport Tower in Newport Rhode Island was constructed in the 15th century, destroyed in the 16th, and rebuilt in the 17th century. It is an important North American landmark. Using the science of geoglyphology, which takes true spherical bearings on a curved surface, then applies these findings to a flat plane, it has been determined that this N.A. survey marker was revealed when the Norse came to North America circa 1000 A.D..

The site was identified over 7000 years before the tower was built. Draped in mystery, the tower has been mentioned in the book, “Ancient Signposts” and linked to the Knights Templar. It is also purported to have once been used as a corn grinding windmill.

I am deeply concerned about environment, wildlife, and animal welfare, feeling a strong commitment to leaving the planet in better shape for new generations. Therefore, I support a number of charities that reflect those interests.

I have a degree in English and Library Science, but if I had my life to live over, I would have loved to have been a photographer, writer, and/or National Park ranger.

It was owned by Governor Benedict Arnold (uncle of the notorious one) who is buried just down hill from the tower. He mentioned it in his will when he asked to be buried in his graveyard to the west of his stone windmill.
I love this shot, ads it manages to remove most of the modern clutter surrounding the site.

  • I read about the governor. Thanks, Steve. My intention was to eliminate the “modern” out of the shot. I appreciate that you caught that.
