Greasing the skids! by Nancy Richard
Clear

Sub glacial falls tumble from the deep interior of a glacier in the inside passageway somewhere near Topeka glacier, Alaska. As the ice melts beneath tons of pressure, the water “greases the skids” so to speak, like wax on the runners of a sled, allowing the glacier to advance.

I am deeply concerned about environment, wildlife, and animal welfare, feeling a strong commitment to leaving the planet in better shape for new generations. Therefore, I support a number of charities that reflect those interests.

I have a degree in English and Library Science, but if I had my life to live over, I would have loved to have been a photographer, writer, and/or National Park ranger.

Wow…awesome shot! I didn’t know that about glaciers…I learned something new today. Thanks!

  • Thanks for your comment , Laurie. I’m sure that this process doesn’t always result in falls like this, but this one sure did.

Nancy, since you were able to post this photo, I guess your cruise ship stood far away enough for you all not to get hurt….love this capture!!!

  • Lorraine, I was a distance away on a cruise ship with a 20X zoom. This was the clearest shot I could get. Thanks so much for your comment. The world is a big place and there’s so much to see. I appreciate your support.

  • Thank you, John. When you’re shooting from the distance I was you can’t be choosy. I was lucky to get this one. Appreciate your comment for sure.

A beautiful capture, Nancy! I got one that is similar in Glacier Bay. I will see if I can resurrect it, and will post it. What a wonderful phenomenon.

  • Thanks, Judy. I’ll look forward to seeing yours.
