Heceta Head Lighthouse/ Beautiful and Haunted ! by

Heceta Head Lighthouse, built in 1894 and named for Spanish explorer, Bruno de Heceta,, is considered the strongest lighthouse on the Oregon coast (USA). It is just north of the sea lion caves, about 13 miles north of Florence. Atop a 205 foot headland, it is at a cove at the mouth of Cape Creek.

Keepers quarters are rumored to be haunted by the ghost of an elderly woman, nicknamed, Rue. There have been several incidents involving moved objects and apparitions generally seen from the outside into the attic.

I am deeply concerned about environment, wildlife, and animal welfare, feeling a strong commitment to leaving the planet in better shape for new generations. Therefore, I support a number of charities that reflect those interests.

I have a degree in English and Library Science, but if I had my life to live over, I would have loved to have been a photographer, writer, and/or National Park ranger.

I would love to live there…I could learn how to work in a lighthouse!

  • I agree with you, Kratos. There are so many beautiful areas to live in this country. Thank you for the comment.

You had a great day to capture this lighthouse. Last couple of times I’ve been out there it’s been way to foggy!!! Excellent!

  • I know how that is….we had all fog along the California coast. Happy you liked my photo. Thank you, Cee!

Beautiful capture of this great scene. (I usually find it shrouded in fog.) This would be perfect for the All Oregon group.
