While riding in a snow coach thru the south entrance into Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, I was lucky to observe this fox dozing just inside the gate. As you can see, he had one wary eye open. Our driver stopped the vehicle, and, as I was in the front passenger’s seat, I leaned across her and shot this through the open window.

Animals are very stressed in the winter and it is important not to haze them in any way, as they struggle to survive.

Yellowstone NATIONAL Park is located primarily in Wyoming, USA

I am deeply concerned about environment, wildlife, and animal welfare, feeling a strong commitment to leaving the planet in better shape for new generations. Therefore, I support a number of charities that reflect those interests.

I have a degree in English and Library Science, but if I had my life to live over, I would have loved to have been a photographer, writer, and/or National Park ranger.

Wow! What a catch! How far away were you? Did he let you get as close as this looks? I love the one eye on you. :-)

  • Karen, we were driving into Yellowstone park by the south entrance in a guided snow coach tour. I happened to be in the front seat, but our tour guide had the window open. I reached across her and snapped the photo through the open window. (He was on her side.) Why the fox was by the side of the road sleeping, I’ll never know.

I’m dying to go to Yellowstone in Winter. I’d need a whole new wardrobe, though! I dream of stuff like this.

  • When we went a couple of winters ago, it was 15 degrees BELOW zero. So dress warm!!!

Wow great capture, it looks like it is frozen!!!

  • Survival is so critical to wildlife in winter. That’s why no one got out of the coach so as not to disturb him.

A fabulous capture, Nancy! Isn’t it wonderful how they can stay warm as they sleep in the snow?
