Now Reaching the Heavens
Boreas Pass, Colorado…..one of my favorite places on the face of the Earth to shoot at….the fact that there is hardly anyone ever up here and the fields of Wildflowers go on forever really make this quite an extraordinary place. Located on the Continental Divide, it reaches an altitude of 11,481 feet high.
The pass was formerly known as Breckenridge Pass in the 1860s, when it served as an early route for thousands of prospectors during the Colorado Gold Rush who crossed from South Park to look for gold in the valley of the Blue around Breckenridge. In 1866, it was widened to a wagon road that accommodated stagecoaches. In 1882, under the direction of Sidney Dillon of the Union Pacific Railroad , the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad (by then controlled by the Union Pacific) begun laying narrow gauge tracks up the pass, which Dillon renamed in honor of Boreas, the Ancient Greek god of the North Wind.

I love the contrast between the ground and sky. The detail on the rocks draws your eye. Good job.

Hmmm… don’t recall going over this pass myself when I lived out that way… will certainly have to seek it out on a future visit! ;) Wonderful perspective!!

I really like the composition you are working with in this shot. The flowers in the forground/right really seem to pull the oveall comp together. It is really strange how that works sometimes. I consider myself a foreground junkie. lol Rarely taking off my sigma 10-20 just because it allows me to include foreground and sky, not to mention love photos that include it.
Love the vibrant colors and great scenery. A bit of history too! Nicely done John!
