Mountain Thunder

Mountain Thunder

Shot on the top of Trailridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. Standing at approximately 12,000 feet high, I took this shot, then hurried back in the car. Why? Well as the sign stated :

“Warning! If there is any indication of thunderstorms or lightning in the area, you should not make this hike. Remember: lightning has been known to strike up to 5 miles from the thunderhead and as the tallest object, you become a prime lightning rod! This applies to all areas above tree line!”

And now you know why. And as I sat here surveying the whole scene, like something out of the movie “The 10 Commandments”..... I did start singing “The hills are alive with the sound of mussssssssic!” I was awe struck, and this was a very hard shot for me personally considering my health as of late and the altitude I was at. I overdid it, but ya know, I think the price I paid was well worth it! Many, many more shots to come yet. Stay tuned!

YIKES!!! I went to the Alpine nature center up there-where they have 3 lightning rods that go down a long ways. It’s seriously dangerous with those clouds-but gorgeous!
