I watched this little cicada break out of its shell, it was such a struggle. Here it is with its wings out but still wet and slowing unfolding, it was pushing so hard to get out of its shell, its legs outstretched with a final push.

WOW! You’re so lucky! I’ve never actually had the opportunity to witness this happening.
I was just explaining this process to my boys on the weekend after we found a cicada shell (always very exciting). Reilly (who’s 4) is scared of the shells. He thinks they’re going to hurt him despite all my explanations otherwise.
This is a real treat :)
