Yesterday I visited and was fortunate to be able to photograph the shearing at Deeargee Woolshed on the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia.
It was such a thrill to witness the buzz and activity of the woolshed. The shearers and rouseabouts work so hard, the pace never stops……….. 5 shearers, 9,000 sheep, 8 days.
A huge thank you to the shearers, rouseabouts, classers and especially to the Sutherlands for the wonderful opportunity, it truly was an eye-opening and fantastic experience.
Photographed through the viewfinder of my vintage Argoflex Seventy-five – taken 18/8/2010.
Untouched apart from crop.

What fabulous light!
The light in this shed was to die for Mel, I’m glad I managed to capture it.

Interesting composition, good work!
They move so fast and I was trying hard not to get in the way!
Thanks Cary.

Really like the crop. It evokes the spirit of Tom Roberts’ art. One of the characters in my first novel is a former shearer.
Walking into a shearing shed in full swing is like walking into one of his paintings… and they’re full of ‘characters’. Thanks so much for the huge compliment.
