i love this one Sylvia!!! stunning natural lines…. and i love the colour of the mushroom, it’s white but not really white… sort of porcelain-like… way cool chicky!!
Kitsmumma in reply to busbydeebar’s comment, 5 months ago
Hey Trevy, you would love these, not to eat (I don’t think) but to look at. They are amazing and growing about 20 metres down the street next to the road. They are about the size of a football cut in half, I couldn’t believe it…....... and the colour, yes, I totally get what you mean. They are really white on top. I’ve never seen mushies like these.

I had my suspicions Rhana, is it really? and there were tiny little red ones growing in the grass too, we’ve had so much rain! Thank you x

“The undersurface of the cap of a true mushroom is covered with narrow flanges called ‘gills’. In a young mushroom these gills are pink. As the mushroom matures they turn brown to almost black. Toadstools or poisonous mushrooms have gills that remain white throughout their entire life cycle.”

In short babe… if you are unsure… DONT EAT IT!!! Unless you have a penchant for dancing with pink elephants ;) xx

Thought as much Rhana, thanks for this. Can’t believe how gorgeous they were and huge…... I was never going to eat it, pure as it looked, just take it’s picture, hehe, I’m way passed my dancing with pink elephant days.

This is an Amanita sp. Mushrooms and toadstools are both common names ( generally it seems though that toadstools refer to poisoness ones and mushrooms to those that are edible)- No shrooms should be eaten unless you know whats going on and even then at own risk.
but lovely shot.
i know its an amanita as the gills are white and not attached directly to the stem. It however could be a lepiota or something else it is hard to tell without other characters- so peoples again BEWARES.
I’m glad peoples are about appreciating fungi here as art and as organisms.- building knowledge is crucial.
Amanita as a genus contains some of the most deadly shrooms so far known.
i think i like it with black best but they both do work very well. enjoy your fungi hunt
